Free drink deals

Free drink deals
Beer, cocktails, coffee, tea & more

You can often score free drinks by signing up for offers, though this usually entails agreeing to receive marketing emails – but you can always unsubscribe after redeeming your free drink. Sadly, many offers don’t apply in Scotland (or require the purchase of a main meal) due to the country’s differing alcohol promotion regulations, but we’ve highlighted where this applies. These deals should help satisfy your thirst, and if you’re also a bit hungry, check out our guide on How to get free (or discounted) food.

  • FREE tea or filter coffee at Ikea

When you visit an Ikea store (find the closest one), you can enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or filter coffee (normally priced at £1) by simply scanning your Ikea Family card at the in-store restaurant. Ikea Family is their free loyalty program, and you can easily sign up either online or in-store.

This free hot beverage is available Monday to Friday at all locations, except Hammersmith, Aberdeen Order & Collection Point, and Plan & Order Points. Ikea mentions that a single Ikea Family card is sufficient to get free drinks for everyone in your group. However, don’t be surprised if staff give you a look if you arrive with a busload of people expecting the free drink!

  • ‘Free’ tea or coffee at Waitrose

If you register for a myWaitrose loyalty card, you can enjoy a complimentary regular-sized tea or coffee from the self-serve machine in-store each day, provided you make a purchase and bring your own reusable cup. Options include americano, cappuccino, latte, or tea.

Certain items, like carrier bags, are not eligible for this offer (check the ‘More info’ section for the full list), but a small purchase, like a 20p banana, can qualify you for the free drink if that’s what you’re after.

Once you’ve signed up through the link provided, your physical myWaitrose loyalty card will arrive within five weeks. Alternatively, you can download the digital version of the card through the app, available for free in the App Store or Google Play.

To claim your drink, simply make a purchase, present your card at the checkout, and then use your reusable cup to get your free beverage. In some Waitrose locations, you’ll need to scan your loyalty card at the machine.

Why do I have to provide my own cup? Waitrose used to hand out disposable coffee cups for this freebie, but in 2018 it stopped this for environmental reasons.

It’s one free drink per member, per day. Offer excludes hot chocolate, mocha and espresso and isn’t valid at Costa concessions, petrol filling stations, Shell and Welcome Break. It can’t be used with other café or hot drink offers, or the café loyalty card.

Qualifying purchases also exclude tobacco, stamps, mobile top ups, e-Top up vouchers, lottery tickets, gift vouchers, cashback, infant milk formulae, car park charges, fuel and delivery charges.

Free protection for all shopping!

There’s a lesser-known law that can transform any credit card into a powerful financial safeguard. Under ‘Section 75‘ of the Consumer Credit Act, your credit card automatically protects any purchase over £100 at no extra cost. This means that if something goes wrong or the company goes out of business, you’re entitled to get your money back.

While Section 75 doesn’t cover debit cards, there’s another option if you’ve used a debit card or made a credit card purchase below £100. This is called Chargeback, which is governed by the internal policies of banks and card companies, though it’s not legally mandated. For a detailed explanation of Section 75 or Chargeback and how to file a claim, see our guides.
