UN: 575 million people will still be extremely poor by 2030

The United Nations has said that by 2030 there will still be 575 million people struggling with extreme poverty.

According to the United Nations (UN), it is predicted that by 2030, 575 million people around the world will continue to struggle with extreme poverty, and 84 million children will not be able to go to school.

In the report published by the UN, drawing attention to the risk in the realization of the 2030 Development Goals, including “zero hunger”, it was shared that only 15 percent of the 140 targets set could be achieved.

In the report, it was emphasized that by 2030, 575 million people around the world will struggle with extreme poverty, and 84 million children will not be able to go to school.

In the preface of the report, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned, “If we don’t act now, our 2030 agenda will remain a tombstone for the whole world. Failure to progress in this process could mean deepening inequalities and increasing the risk of a fragmented world.”

Li Junhua, UN Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, said at the press conference where the report was announced, that all factors such as the war in Ukraine, climate change, the permanent effects of the Kovid-19 epidemic and the devastating effects of this epidemic on the economy of developing countries, and geographical tensions will be addressed by 2030. He stressed that it threatens the progress made in achieving the Development Goals.
