More than 6 billion cyberattacks on Canadian government agencies

It was reported that in 2022, an average of 6.3 billion cyberattacks were made on the computer systems of Canada’s official institutions daily.

The report, released by the Canadian Communications Security Establishment (CSE), noted that an average of 6.3 billion “malicious acts” were taken per day against Canada’s federal agencies over the past year.

In the ever-evolving online environment, criminals, hackers and hostile government actors seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in Canada committed more than 2.3 trillion “malicious acts” against government agencies and organizations throughout the year, the CSE report said.

CSE President Caroline Xavier did not elaborate on the cyber attacks, saying, “As always, there are parts of our work that we cannot share in a public report.”

The Canadian government has allocated $273.7 million to strengthen CSE’s ability to conduct foreign operations in the coming years.
