Inflation slowed down in Tokyo

Tokyo inflation slowed sharply in April, while core inflation fell sharply than expected.

Inflation in Tokyo, Japan’s capital, slowed down to 1.8 percent in April after an increase of 2.6 percent in March.

Core inflation, which excludes fresh food prices in the city, was 1.6 percent, down from 2.4 percent in March and below economists’ expectations of 2.2 percent.

It is widely accepted that Tokyo’s inflation figures are a leading indicator of nationwide trends.
