Inflation slowed down in Japan

Consumer prices in Japan increased by 2.5 percent in April.

Inflation slowed down in Japan, and consumer prices increased by 2.5 percent in April.

Inflation in Japan was below the 2.7 percent seen in March. Inflation dropped slightly to 2.5 percent in April. Thus, it marked the month in which inflation slowed down for the second consecutive time.

Core inflation, which does not include fresh food prices, also slowed down from 2.6 percent to 2.2 percent, in line with expectations.

The “core” inflation rate, which excludes both fresh food and energy prices and is taken into account by the Bank of Japan when formulating monetary policy, saw the steepest decline, from 2.9 percent in the previous month to 2.4 percent in April.
