Yellen is expected to discuss various bilateral issues with senior Chinese officials during her four-day visit.
Yellen will also raise issues such as climate change, emerging markets and debt problems in emerging economies.
Relations between the US and China have been strained in recent years due to issues such as Taiwan, chip trade, allegations of Chinese spy balloons flying over US soil.
Yellen’s visit comes just after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Beijing last month.
