US Treasury Secretary Yellen plans to go to China

US Treasury Secretary Yellen plans to visit China in July.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen plans to visit Beijing in early July for the first high-level economic talks with her new Chinese counterpart.

Citing sources, Yellen said in April that her trip had been long awaited, but was postponed “to the appropriate time”.

Additionally, sources familiar with the internal negotiations said that an executive order by the Biden administration to regulate and potentially halt some US investments in China is nearing completion, and officials aim to have it ready by late July.

The Secretary of the Treasury will become the second US cabinet official to travel to Beijing after relations between the world’s two largest economies deteriorated earlier this year. Foreign Minister Antony Blinken met with his counterpart. US and Chinese officials described Blinken’s visit as fruitful and said the two sides held candid talks on a number of issues.
