Accordingly, the number of people applying for unemployment benefits for the first time in the country increased by 4 thousand people compared to the previous week, reaching 219 thousand in the week ending May 25.

Market expectations were that the number of applications would be 217 thousand.

The number of ongoing unemployment benefit applications decreased by 3 thousand people in the week ending May 18, reaching 1 million 791 thousand.
