New limitation on artificial intelligence chip from the USA

The US is reportedly considering new restrictions on the export of artificial intelligence chips to China.

The U.S. Department of Commerce may take action as early as next month to stop shipments of chips from Nvidia and other chip makers to customers in China and other related countries without prior licensing.

The move could further limit China’s development of AI capabilities after restrictions last year cut off access to the most advanced AI chips made by Nvidia and AMD, the report said.

Pointing out that Nvidia has made a sub-version of artificial intelligence chips for the Chinese market, it was noted that the new restrictions would prohibit even the unlicensed sale of these chips.

The US is also considering restricting the lease of cloud services to Chinese artificial intelligence companies that use such regulations to circumvent export bans on advanced chips, the report said.

In the news, which pointed out that the chip manufacturers wanted the administration to give up or ease the new restrictions, it was emphasized that it was unclear when the new restrictions would come into effect.
