Interest rate message from Dallas Fed President Logan

Fed President Lorie Logan said at the event she attended that it was too early to consider lowering interest rates.

Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan said she believes inflation is still moving toward the Fed’s 2 percent target and that it is too early to cut interest rates.

“I think there’s good reason to think we’re heading toward 2 percent — we’re still on that path, maybe a little slower and a little more bumpy than many people thought at the beginning of the year,” Logan said at the event. “But there’s a lot of uncertainty about that path. There’s something else we need to prepare for.” “I can also imagine ways, and I continue to be concerned about the upside risks related to inflation,” he said.

Fed policymakers will meet in about two weeks and are expected to keep the policy rate in the current range of 5.25 percent to 5.5 percent. Many analysts expect Fed officials to predict fewer interest rate cuts this year.
