Interest rate expectations from Cleveland Fed President Mester

Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester said it was appropriate for the Fed to keep interest rates steady.

Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester said it was too early to say progress on reducing inflation had stalled and that it was appropriate for the Fed to keep interest rates steady while awaiting evidence that price pressures were further easing.

“It’s too early to conclude that we’ve actually stopped or that inflation will reverse,” Mester said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

Mester is currently a voting member of the Fed‘s rate-setting committee but will retire from the central bank at the end of June.
