Unemployment remained stable in the euro area

Unemployment rate in the Euro Area remained unchanged at 6.5 percent in May.

The European Statistics Office (Eurostat) has released the unemployment data for the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone for May. Accordingly, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the EU, which was 6 percent in April, was 5.9 percent in May.

The unemployment rate in the Euro Zone, which was 6.5 percent in April, remained stable in May.

The unemployment rate was 6.7 in the Euro Area and 6.1 in the EU in May of last year.

On a country basis, unemployment rate was 12.7 percent in Spain, 7.6 percent in Italy, 7 percent in France and 2.9 percent in Germany in May.

While the number of unemployed in the EU was 12 million 937 thousand in May, 11 million 14 thousand of them took place in the Euro Zone.

In May, the number of unemployed youth under the age of 25 was 2 million 696 thousand in the EU and 2 million 226 thousand in the Euro Area.

Youth unemployment rate was measured as 13.9 percent in the EU and Euro Area.
