Construction permit for Tesla factory in China

It has been reported that US electric car and battery manufacturer Tesla has received a construction permit for the factory it will establish in China to produce energy storage units.

According to the news of the Chinese agency

The company signed an agreement with the Shanghai local government in December 2023 to allocate land for the factory.

Tesla’s lithium-ion battery units, called “Megapack”, capable of storing 4 megawatt hours of electricity, will be produced in the factory.

The factory, whose construction is planned to be completed this year, is planned to be operational in the first quarter of 2025. The factory aims to produce a total of 40 gigawatt-hours of energy storage capacity with 10 thousand units per year.

Tesla currently has a “mega factory” in Lathrop, California, USA, with the capacity to produce 10 thousand Megapacks per year.

The company plans to expand its “giga factory” in Shanghai, which can produce 1 million electric cars per year, with an additional capacity of 450 thousand.
