Chip call from China to Japan

Following the entry into force of restrictions imposed by Japan on the export of materials used in chip manufacturing to China, the Chinese government has called on Japan not to “disrupt the chip industry”.

In his statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that they regret the restrictions imposed by Japan and said that they are extremely disturbed by the decision.

Mao urged Japan not to let the relevant restrictions disrupt normal chip industry cooperation between the two countries.

Japan’s restrictions on the export of advanced chip-making equipment to China took effect yesterday. The restrictions cover China’s exports of 23 materials used to make advanced chips used in smartphones, artificial intelligence and other applications.

The US imposed restrictions on China’s access to chips and chipmaking technology in 2019, while the Joe Biden administration expanded these controls to block access to chip design and manufacturing materials.
