Supercomputer plan from Elon Musk

Elon Musk recently told investors that his AI startup xAI is planning to build a supercomputer that will power the next version of its AI chatbot Grok.

US businessman Elon Musk recently told investors that his AI startup xAI plans to build a supercomputer that will power the next version of its AI chatbot Grok, The Information reported, citing a presentation he made to investors on Saturday.

According to the report, Musk stated that he wants to have the proposed supercomputer operating by the fall of 2025, adding that xAI could partner with Oracle to develop the giant computer.

Once completed, the connected chip stacks — Nvidia‘s flagship H100 graphics processing units (GPUs) — will be at least four times the size of the largest GPU stacks in existence today, The Information reported, citing a presentation Musk gave to investors in May.

Nvidia’s H100 family of powerful GPUs dominates the data center chip market for AI, but can be difficult to obtain due to high demand.

Musk founded xAI last year as a rival to Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Alphabet’s Google. Musk also co-founded OpenAI.
