Google will invest $2 billion to develop its first data center and Google Cloud region in Malaysia.

The commitment marks Google’s largest planned investment in the Southeast Asian country, Alphabet Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat said on Thursday.

The data center and Google Cloud regional facility will support 26,500 jobs across various sectors in the country, with a total economic impact worth $3.2 billion, according to Malaysia’s ministry of commerce. It was also stated that the area of ​​​​the investments will be in Sime Darby Property’s Elmina Business Park in the state of Selangor.

US tech giants have stepped up investments in Southeast Asia in recent months, investing billions of dollars as they seek new growth opportunities. CEOs of Microsoft, Apple and Nvidia have traveled throughout the region to prepare strategic plans and meet with heads of state.
