Green light from Mercedes to China

German automobile manufacturer Mercedes stated that China is very important for its global strategy and announced that they will continue to invest in China.

Mercedes Benz announced that the company will continue to invest in its Chinese partners such as internet company Baidu. The company also stated that China is crucial to its global strategy.

China is “the most dynamic new energy vehicle market,” Hubertus Troska said at a press conference on the opening day of the Beijing auto show, attended by Baidu CEO Robin Li.

Mercedes sales chief Duan Jianjun said at the same event that they were bringing a number of electric models to the show, hoping to dispel “rumors” that the company was giving up on electrification.

Executives also announced that Mercedes will launch the electric G-class in China this year.

In February, Mercedes postponed some of its sales targets for electric vehicles for five years and announced to investors that it would continue to develop internal combustion engine models.
