Boston Dynamics introduced its electric humanoid robot

Boston Dynamics has retired its famous hydraulically powered Atlas robot, but introduced its new electrically powered Atlas robot. The new Atlas robot is thinner and has an improved range of motion, and it is expected to work first in Hyundai factories before being released to the general market.

Atlas, one of the humanoid robots whose body shape was produced to resemble the human body and developed for functional purposes such as communication with the tools and the environment used by humans and experimental purposes, will now work with electricity.

Boston Dynamics retired the famous hydraulically powered Atlas robot and introduced its new electrically powered Atlas robot. The statement made by the company was that the hydraulic system of the Atlas, which is now retired, is out of date.

It is not difficult to understand why Boston Dynamics, owned by Hyundai Motor Group, wants to switch to electric. The new Atlas robot looks slimmer and has an improved range of motion. The robot’s new features are expected to accelerate its adaptation to possible working environments. It is expected that the humanoid robot will first take place in Hyundai factories before entering the market in general.

There are other startups working on the humanoid robot project, such as Figure, 1X, Agility, Sanctuary and Tesla. These companies are similarly focused on the development of commercial robotics, and competition will play a critical role in shaping the future industrial robotics field.
