EU to Microsoft competition investigation

The European Union (EU) has launched a competition investigation because technology company Microsoft combined its Teams app with Office 365 and Microsoft 365 software.

The EU Commission announced that it has launched a formal investigation to determine whether Microsoft violated Union competition rules.

In the statement, it was noted that the EU Commission is concerned about “Microsoft’s potential to restrict the competitive environment in Europe and abuse its market position by combining the Teams application with Office 365 and Microsoft 365 software”.

Pointing out that Microsoft is concerned about giving Teams a distribution advantage and not giving customers the right to choose with this step, it was reported that the company may have also imposed restrictions on the use of competing applications.

Margrethe Vestage, Vice President of the European Union (EU) Commission, said in a statement on the subject that remote communication and applications such as Teams have come to an important position for the European business world, “Therefore, the markets for these products remain competitive and companies are free to choose the products that best meet their needs. We have to make sure it happens.” used the phrase.
