Twitter’s X logo smuggles users to Mastodon

The popular social media platform Twitter abandoned its iconic brand in favor of owner Elon Musk’s favorite letter “X”, while its open-source rival Mastodon increased the number of users. In his new post, Eugen Rochko, Mastodon’s founding CEO, said, “Our monthly active users have increased steadily to reach 2.1 million. “We are not far from our last summit,” he said.

According to Musk’s latest posts, the company’s new name will now be “X”, and the company’s logo will change accordingly. According to Elon Musk’s latest post, even the X.com link is now redirected to Twitter.
While Twitter changed its brand perception by changing its name to X, the user numbers of its rival Mastodon started to increase again.

According to a new post from Mastodon founder and CEO Eugen Rochko, the number of monthly active users for the Twitter alternative has grown steadily to reach 2.1 million. “We are not far from our last summit,” said German software developer Rochko in his post.

Previously, Mastodon’s monthly active users had reached 2.5 million between October and November, shortly after Elon Musk officially took ownership of Twitter, then slumped to 1.7 million after a while. Twitter users seem to have turned to different Twitter alternatives such as the newly established Bluesky, T2, Spill, and Post. Mastodon founder shared in his new post that the number of users on the platform has increased steadily to reach 2.1 million. Before the Musk era, Mastodon had about 300,000 monthly active users on Twitter. The fate of Mastodon’s growth often seems to depend on Twitter’s moves.

Mastodon, the decentralized social media platform operating on the Activitypub protocol, seems to be Twitter’s biggest competitor for now.
